Prematurity
A premature baby is usually defined as being born before 38 weeks of gestation or having a birth weight of less than five and half pounds (2.5 kg). Premature birth puts infants at risk of a number of life-threatening conditions, as well as brain damage and mental retardation
.The risk of problems is usually in proportion to the degree of prematurity. The chances of premature delivery are two to three times more likely in mothers who have not received or availed themselves of prenatal care.
